"Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding." - Albert Einstein

Wednesday 21st September  2016

The International Day of Peace.

The International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September each year. Established in 1981, the day is dedicated to strengthening the bond of peace within and among the countries around the world. It is also known as the day of non-violence and cease-fire.

In 2002, The United Nations declared it a permanent holiday.  Through education and public awareness events, the UN works to strengthen the ideals of peace among all of the world’s people and countries.  The day is celebrated to mark the 30th anniversary of the General Assembly Declaration on the Right of Peoples to Peace.  On this day, the UN urges all hostilities to stop, worldwide.
